Abercrombie & Kent has become the 26th supplier member of the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers.

It joins a line-up of operators specialising in escorted touring and adventure travel.

The worldwide tour operator has seen a rise in demand for its small group tours, such as 4X4 self-drive trips in Iceland and Morocco and bear spotting in Canada or the Arctic.

Rachel Healey, Abercrombie & Kent’s UK sales manager, said: “We are probably best known for our luxury tailor-made holidays, but in recent years we have seen a huge growth in our portfolio of small group tours. Much of this growth has come from our fantastic travel agent partners, so joining Atas provides us with the perfect platform to continue raising awareness of our small group journey programme and working with like-minded agents.

“The face of touring has changed and our eclectic programme shakes off some of the myths surrounding group travel. There’s adventure during the day but with the luxury-by-night element you would expect from A&K. We are really excited to bring new product to this year’s portfolio. We are excited to be part of the Atas network and feel that A&K can really bring something new to the trade.”

Abercrombie & Kent was born out of a love of Africa in the early 1960s and now creates tailor-made holidays to destinations such as Asia, the Americas, Antarctica and the Arctic, the South Pacific, Australasia, the Indian Subcontinent, Caribbean, North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

The first Atas Conference will take place at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre on October 18, with more than 200 agents meeting members and enjoying a series of business sessions, a gala dinner and awards.
