Comment: Cosmos hails reopening of US and Canada

Janet Parton, sales and marketing director at Cosmos, advises early booking as tours to US and Canada will be popular

After being closed to most travellers since March 2020, the long-awaited news of the US opening their borders was a welcome relief for many.

The US is set to reopen to UK visitors in early November and follows Canada’s announcement of opening its borders earlier this month.

The news was a big boost for many; not just those who have missed loved ones across the pond, but for the travel industry as a whole and for travellers that are looking for a slice of adventure, rekindle their love for travel and to make up for lost time.

And what better way to see the US and Canada than on a tour?

We know that our guests have missed out on experiences, adventures and are looking to broaden their horizons.

They are looking to go beyond where they have been before and get into the heart of the destination.

Bucket-list experiences are high on the agenda for travellers and the US and Canada have them in bucket loads – from the national parks of the US and Canada to the iconic Route 66, to the rhythm and soul of the southern music cities in Nashville and Memphis and beyond into the wilderness of Canada.

We know that travellers want to explore and immerse themselves in cultures and experiences that they maybe once took for granted.

They want to do more, see more, experience more. That’s why we have included Local Favourites – experiences that take guests beyond the guidebooks.

So, what will the US look like? Domestic tourism is high, and that’s even before international travellers return.

Different states and provinces may have different policies and procedures and it is expected that demand will be high.

The key is to encourage customers to book early to avoid disappointment and potential price hikes.

The news of the US opening is positive, without a doubt, but I fear that there will still be some confusion ahead.

Book with experts that can guide you through and with companies that you trust to look after you and your customers and have done through the pandemic.

Travellers are hungry for inspiration; they have never been keener to know what is available to them.

The current Cosmos and Globus campaigns are perfect timing for those travellers that want to take a bite of the big apple or lose their heart in San Francisco.
