Globes reveals awards for touring and adventure

The increasing importance of the touring and adventure sector to the travel trade has been reflected with a new Globe Travel Awards category for best adventure operator.

The category will celebrate the growth of adventure travel, alongside other awards crowning the best in class in mainstream and premium escorted touring.

To make the categories clearer, the Best Activity & Adventure Operator award has been renamed Best Operator for Activities, honouring suppliers that specialise in activities including skiing, cycling, walking and water sports.

Speaking as nominations open for the 2018 Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards, editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley said: “The launch of the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) earlier this year demonstrated the growth of the sector, and with 25 members now signed up, the importance of the trade is clear to see.

“The Globe Travel Awards are the undisputed pinnacle of achievement for suppliers, and we are delighted to clearly define the touring, adventure and activity categories to ensure agents have the chance to vote for their favourites in every key sector.”

The Globe Travel Awards 2018 will take place at London’s Grosvenor House hotel on January 11, with another sell-out event expected after more than 1,200 guests attended last year.

Once again, guests are promised a stellar line-up of entertainment, awards and prizes, as travel agents’ favourite suppliers are honoured.

The event will also include three special awards, presented for outstanding contribution, innovation and to an unsung hero, and a number of consumer awards, presented in association with Mail Advertising.
