Intrepid Travel has become the latest operator to dismiss the prospect of surcharges despite soaring jet fuel prices due to the Iran war.
The move is designed to offer travellers “greater confidence and peace of mind” at a time when fluctuating costs are impacting the broader travel industry.
The small group adventure travel provider follows Jet2 which led the way with a no surcharge initiative seven days ago and was followed by mainstream rivals Tui and easyJet holidays last weekend and CV Villas yesterday.
Intrepid committed to not introducing surcharges on existing or new bookings across its core range of small-group adventures this year.
While some operators have flagged the potential for surcharges tied to fuel, currency or operational costs, Intrepid said it was committed to absorbing these costs within its core tour pricing “wherever possible”, so that travellers are not faced with unexpected price increases after booking.
“The price confirmed at booking for small group adventures is the price customers can expect to pay,” the company said.
“Intrepid’s stance signals a broader commitment to stability, transparency, and delivering value for its customers and partners.”
The no-surcharge commitment applies to small-group adventure range, both tour-only and flight-inclusive packages.
But it excludes Polar expeditions and tailor-made arrangements, which “operate under different cost structures”.
Intrepid added: “Where international flights are not included and travellers book flights independently or through third‑party providers, airfare pricing and any airline‑imposed charges remain subject to the airline’s own policies.”
Additionally, Intrepid noted its booking conditions and flexible terms are “designed to be clear, customer-first, flexible and transparent”.
These include low deposits, a clear cancellation structure and flexible payment timelines. Specific terms, deposits and cancellation conditions vary by region and trip type.
UK & Ireland general manager Joanna Reeve said: “Travel should feel exciting, not uncertain.
“We know confidence matters when booking a trip, and that starts with clarity on price. Our focus is on delivering incredible, locally led experiences without unexpected add-ons or last-minute increases.”
She added: “At its core, this is about doing right by our customers. We believe in being upfront, standing by our pricing, and giving travellers the confidence to book their next adventure.”
