Intrepid Travel is offering off-the-beaten-track tours of London following a partnership to support former homeless people develop careers in tourism.
The tie-up is with social enterprise Unseen Tours, which aims to create jobs for people who have experienced homelessness, offering them skills development and a reliable income from conducting guided walking tours in the capital.
Each tour is led and created by a person affected by homelessness, with areas explored including Brixton, where Intrepid’s UK head office is based, London Bridge, King’s Cross, Canary Wharf and Westminster. Tours visit parts of the capital off the main tourist trail.
Unseen Tours is the first UK partner for the operator’s not-for-profit arm, the Intrepid Foundation. Intrepid said the move demonstrated its commitment to investing in and supporting local communities in the destinations it operates in.
The London tours are commissionable for bookings by travel agents for clients travelling on Intrepid’s UK trips, with new tours in development.
Intrepid Travel UK general manager Joanna Reeve said: “We’re proud to be supporting a cause as important as homelessness.
“The latest figures show that more than 382 000 people in England experience homelessness. Our partnership with a London-based social enterprise that’s empowering people through tourism and creating genuine and long-lasting impact aligns well with Intrepid’s values as a purpose-led business.
“We support communities all over the world and it is fantastic that we have now added our local London community to that list. We are excited about the future of this partnership and what we can achieve together.”
Unseen Tours chief executive Jasmine Awad said: “One in 45 Londoners experiences homelessness. Our goal is to create opportunities for people to learn new skills and earn an income.
“This partnership with Intrepid Travel is transformational as it creates a valuable funding stream and helps us reach more travellers. It also helps us show parts of London that often go unseen.”
According to Intrepid’s 2025 annual report, the company gave out £1.8 million to more 58 partner organisations in 45 countries. The amount was an increase of 42% on the prior year. The Intrepid Foundation supports local partners to address social and environmental issues in their communities, many of which are also visited on Intrepid trips.
