Leger launches breaks for once-in-a-decade passion play

Coach holidays specialist Leger Holidays has launched eight itineraries featuring the once-in-a-decade passion play in the German village of Oberammergau.

Performances began in the 1600s and the event is usually staged every 10 years but it has been delayed since 2020 because of the pandemic.

This year, the open-air play will be performed between May 14 and October 2. The event lasts five-and-a-half hours, including a three-hour break for dinner.

It is performed in German, so a guide containing a complete translation is included with all tickets.

Ashley Dellow, Leger Shearings Group’s head of retail sales, said: “Now that all tests and the Passenger Locator Form have been dropped when returning to the UK, the confidence to book big holidays is back.

“Holiday money has been accumulating these past two years and agents would do well to suggest the Oberammergau Passion Play holidays to anyone looking for something really special to make up for lost time.”

The 14-day Oberammergau Passion Play, Rome, The Vatican & Lake Garda holiday costs from £2,049, while the nine-day Oberammergau Passion Play & the Austrian Tyrol tour is priced from £1,469.

Another nine-day holiday, Oberammergau Passion Play & the Magic of Austria, costs from £1,419.
