Madeira brands highlight nautical and mountain activities

Madeira tourism bosses have revamped the destination’s ‘Ocean Trails’ brand to ‘Ocean & Trails’ to highlight the wide range of activities across the archipelago.

The ‘Madeira Ocean & Trails’ brand aims to show how the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo offer adventure and events on the sea and below the waves – such as surfing, diving, sailing and dolphin and whale-watching – while the mountain trails provide opportunities for trail running, hiking, mountain biking and canyoning.

Visit Madeira has also announced a new brand signature, ‘Way Too Beautiful’, which it said “draws on the coexistence between the ocean and the mountains”.

Eduardo Jesus, tourism regional secretary, said: “The region’s subtropical climate allows for a wide variety of mountain and sea activities throughout the year.

“This is undoubtedly a competitive advantage of Madeira that must be exploited to the fullest, in order to encourage more and more visitors, especially those looking for this type of product.

“It is with great pleasure that we integrate the sea and its activities into the Madeira Ocean & Trails concept, which is strengthened with this new connection, becoming a complete brand of active tourism – positioning Madeira as a nature and adventure destination.”

Upcoming events include the European Underwater Photography and Video Championship (October 3-8) and the first Oceanman Madeira (October 10-11) with up to 1,000 swimmers expected to take part in races ranging from 1.5km to 30km.
