Trafalgar and Insight Vacations urge agents to use e-documents in tree planting pledge

Trafalgar and Insight Vacations have committed to planting a tree for every booking which uses new e-documents on the eve of International Forest Day.

The Travel Corporation brands, and the company’s not-for-profit TreadRight Foundation, are making the e-documents available for every trip booked.

They are calling on travel agents to use the new electronic travel documents for clients’ bookings instead of paper documents on the day before International Forest Day, March 21.

For every booking using the e-documents, the operators have pledged to plant one tree in Tanzania or northern California.  One Tree Planted, a not-for-profit organisation focused on global reforestation, will work with local communities to ensure the proper native tree species are planted in the most sustainable manner.

As part of this project, Trafalgar aims to reforest 100 acres of barren and devastated land across Tanzania and northern California in 2018. The destinations were chosen because of Trafalgar’s close connections to California, with its US team based in the state, which recently endured fierce fires destroying over a million acres of forest. Tanzania was chosen because of Trafalgar’s chief executive Gavin Tollman’s passion for reforestation in his Africa homeland. Insight Vacations is committed to planting trees in northern California for every booking using e-documents.

Ruth Hilton, sales and business development director for Trafalgar and Insight Vacations in the UK & Ireland, said: “On behalf of Insight Cares and JoinTrafalgar, we are fully supportive of our partnership with One Tree Planted, and continue to work with TreadRight in hopes of doing our part to make the world a little greener and creating a more sustainable future.

“E-Documents are exactly the same as paper documents, but are able to save trees by minimising the carbon footprint of travel documents. They can be easily accessed from a mobile device, delivering them to clients faster, and at any time.”
