Wendy Wu Tours sees Japan sales soar during Olympics
Asia specialist Wendy Wu Tours said sales to Japan went ‘through the roof’ during the Tokyo Olympics, held from July 23 to August 8.
The operator is now capitalising on the popularity of its Japanese tours by extending its free flights and single supplement offers to September 6, and boosting capacity for 2022 and 2023.
It said that bookings during the 17 days of the Olympic Games were up by 65% compared to the previous 17-day period.
The extra departures are being added for the spring cherry blossom and autumn colours seasons – partly because customers from 2020 and 2021 want to travel in 2022 and 2023 but also because of new bookings.
The combined overall capacity for departures in both years, particularly on its flagship 17-day Japan Uncovered tour, is being increased by 32%.
John Warr, global sales director at Wendy Wu Tours, said: “Bookings to Japan have literally gone through the roof whilst the Olympics have been on and from what we’re seeing now, we fully expect this to continue during the Paralympics.
“Agents have really got behind these offers, fully utilising them on their own websites and social media channels, as well as taking advantage of our Japan webinars and Japan marketing and display collateral for stores.”
The operator has also launched a sale to its other destinations in 2022 and 2023, such as southeast Asia, central Asia, New Zealand and China.
The free flights to Japan can save up to £800 per person while the single supplements offer a saving of up to £1,940 per person.
The worldwide tour discounts are up to £600 per person off any fully inclusive group tour to any destination, travelling in 2022 and 2023.
All bookings must be made by September 6.
